According to an article in the Bellevue Journal-American, the Regional Express campaign collected $728,836 in cash contributions and the opponents (COST) raised $178,935. The average contributor to Regional Express gave about $1,700 although 340 of 431 contributors gave less than $500. The average contribution to the opponents gave almost $3,200 with 19 of 56 giving less than $500. Many of the contributors to the Regional Express campaign were out-of-state engineering firms that hoped to become involved in the design and construction of the transit system.
